Aliabad Teaching Hospital was established in 1932 in the campus of Kabul University.
Many Turkish doctors came to serve at Aliabad, Dr. Refqi is an example who was the first physician to start modern medical profession in this hospital.
Subsequently, the French came and affiliation took place between Kabul’s Faculty of Medicine and Leon University.
About 14 years ago Aliabad Hospital owned about 750 beds and several departments with 743 professional and non professional personnel. Though after an year, Aliabad was demolished by imposed fraternal war. The personnel of this hospital were shifted to a building that was part of Obs/Gyn hospital.
During the Taliban regime, Ali-Abad's facilities were completely destroyed.
After establishment of the new regime necessary equipment and drugs were donated by France, International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and national NGOs, which got Ali-Abad to start its activities all over again.
Ali-Abad Teaching Hospital is the only hospital in Kabul owning the Therapeutic Endoscope Centre donated by late Dr. Martin Wingback. This centre has trained several doctors who will later run endoscope centers in different provinces.
